Waking up early is a habit and like all habits, it can be worked on and in time; it can become second nature for you. Here are some simple tips on trying to become a more morning person...
ᴿᴹ Early to bed, early to rise...
A good morning starts with a good night and being well rested. Give yourself time to wind-down in the evenings, read a few chapters of a book, switch off from social media and the internet. When you wake up, you will feel refreshed, energised and be ready to get the day going.
ᴿᴹ Wake up to a clean space.
There is nothing more annoying than to wake up to a messy room. Some regular cleaning and tidying things away regularly can help maintain a clean space and you will feel far better in the morning for it. I’ve woken up in both an ultra messy room and a clean sanctuary of a bedroom and there is a vast difference in my mood. Give this tip a go and see the difference it makes to your mood.
ᴿᴹ Have something to look forward to.
Give yourself the motivation to wake up early. It can be something as simple as watching a TV show, having coffee from your favourite coffee place, listening to the radio or a podcast. Without having that something to look forward to, you're far more likely to hit the snooze button, roll around and try to fall back to sleep.
ᴿᴹ Set realistic alarms.
Set realistic alarms on your phone. There is no point in trying to wake up at 6:00am only to keep hitting the snooze button until 7:30am. Set yourself a personal goal of what time you would ideally like to be waking up daily. Each week, set the alarm 15 mins closer. This is a more realistic way of being able to achieve early morning status without it feeling painful.
ᴿᴹ Ensure you’re eating and drinking well.
Nothing makes a person more grumpy than being hungry. Make sure you have three solid meals a day and are drinking plenty of water throughout. Waking up feeling hungry is not the best feeling. Be sure to have a good meal on returning home from work and have a good, nutritious breakfast in the morning. Keeping the hunger pangs at bay will help you be less grouchy in the mornings.
