Green tea is derived from the leaves of the Chinese plant, the Camellia sinensis plant. Green tea is a popular beverage in China and Japan its discovery can be dated back to 2737BC when the Emperor of China accidentally drank a cup of hot tea which had a dead tea leaf inside. It was around the 14th Century that tea began more accessible to the masses.


It wasn't until the 1600s that green tea was imported into London. Tobacconist and coffee house owner, Thomas Garway was the first person in England to see tea in his London coffeehouse in Exchange Alley in 1657.


Green tea, with its high antioxidant properties and low caffeine is considered to be a healthy alternative to tea. And it is for this reason that in recent years, the popularity of green tea has risen.
