Finding your favourite type of exercise

Bored of trying to get fit. Maybe you haven't found the right one for you....

Exercise does not have to be boring and it doesn't have to be hard. It is about moving your body, keeping active and being fit. If you haven't enjoyed working out in the past, perhaps you haven't found the right form of exercise for you. Here are some worth trying out:


ᴿᴹ Yoga Yoga originated as a meditative movement in South-East Asia. There is a lot of spirituality linked to yoga. It is a low intensity posture based exercise. There are many benefits to yoga including helping with back pain, improving core strength and flexibility as well as improve mental stresses. Anyone can do yoga; those who have mobility issues can do chair yoga.


ᴿᴹ Pilates

Pilates is similar to yoga in that it is a low intensity form of exercise which focuses on strength building. Those who practice pilates regularly can enjoy good posture, muscle definition, flat abdominal muscles, improved flexibility, improved balance and reduced stress.


ᴿᴹ Swimming As exercise goes, swimming is relaxing; it can help to lower the resting heart rate and blood flow. Swimming can help build up strength and endurance. Swimming is less stressful for the joints as compared running or cycling, making it great for people of varying fitness levels.

ᴿᴹ Walking Nothing is simpler than going out for a walk. It can easily be built into your daily routine and you can go at any pace you feel comfortable. Going for regular walks help to strengthen your heart, lose weight and tone up your bum, legs and stomach. Studies also suggest it helps to prevent (or delay) the onset of dementia. To get the most from your walks, plan out different walking routes, ensuring that you get a chance to embrace nature and boost your intake of vitamin D. ᴿᴹ Cycling If you didn’t learn as a child, you can pick up this new hobby. It takes some getting used to and it is a really fun way to keep yourself fit and active. It’s also a really good way to strengthen those leg muscles. And here’s something you probably didn’t know….if you live in London, most local councils offer free lessons to their residents, workers and students.

ᴿᴹ Gym

Gyms are a great way to monitor your exercise regime and the progress you are making. By joining a gym, you get the luxury of having lots of different equipments to try out and figuring out what you enjoy doing. You may find you really like cardio and walking on the treadmill gives you a natural high.


ᴿᴹ Workout Classes If you’re lucky enough to be the member of a gym which provide classes, take advantage of them. In these classes, you will get to work out with other people and so making it more fun and make exercise a sociable thing to do. The variety in classes available are countless- you may be surprised at what you may find enjoyable of the classes out there.


ᴿᴹ Boxercise Boxing or any form of self defence exercise is good for two reasons; firstly you are learning to defend yourself against any attack, which hopefully you will never have to face. Secondly, you are getting yourself fit in the process It's a win-win situation.


ᴿᴹ Dancing Dancing is super fun. There are different types of dance that you can get involved with, including breakdancing, salsa, Charleston, ballroom, ballet, etc.. Dancing also comes with many benefits- such as improved functioning in your heart and lungs, increased muscle strength, better endurance and motor fitness. Furthermore, regular dancing helps to reduce the onset of osteoporosis in your later years.

ᴿᴹ Any Outdoorsy Exercise There are plenty of ways that you can reconnect with nature- go for a hike in nature, go mountain climbing, go kayaking, go on a canoe ride, etc.. Being in nature is relaxing and it comes with so many health benefits. It’s great to take some time out of your busy schedule and just take in some nice fresh air an

ᴿᴹ Team Sports Football ,tennis, rugby, basketball or any other team sport is a great way to get fit. With these kinds of games, there is an end goal, there are aims and targets and you will be playing in a team. Some people prefer this form of exercise to working out as there is an objective to the game. So, if you’re bored of everything else, give this one a go and see how you like it.
