ᴿᴹ Visit London parks
With 3000 parks to visit, London is 40% green, covering a total of 35,000 acres. Each park has its own unique beauty. Hyde Park is a favourite one to visit; it is home to the Diana Memorial Fountain, you can go boating on the Serpentine Lake, have picnics and attend concerts. Also, Hyde Park is located a stone's throw away from Green Park and Kensington Gardens.
ᴿᴹ Explore different museums and galleries
London is a culture hub with over 170 museums and art galleries to explore. Most of these are free and offer so much historical and cultural information you can marvel at.
ᴿᴹ Trafalgar Square
Trafalgar Square is home to National Art Gallery, National Portrait Gallery and the iconic Nelson's column. You can sit on the steps and relax as you watch the fountain and the four lions.
ᴿᴹ Stroll through Covent Garden
There's plenty to see and enjoy in Covent Garden. Free street performers, including magicians, human statues and musicians, all give Covent Garden a fun and relaxed atmosphere. You can browse through the independent market stalls and then go into the market square and browse through high end boutique stores. There are lots of places to eat in Covent Garden. A personal favourite of mine is to munch on macarons in Laudrée.
ᴿᴹ Seven Dials/ Neal's Yard
As you come off Covent Garden station, keep an eye out to your left and you will get to Seven Dials. The name is apt as this is a square with seven exits, each one taking you to a different part of London. Be sure to check out Neal's Yard when you're there. This is a colourful courtyard situated between Shorts Garden and Monmouth Street. It's fun, quirky style easily makes it an ideal spot for Instagram pictures.
ᴿᴹ South Bank
The South Bank is by Waterloo station. This is a bit of a cultural hub, often hosting many events. If you're lucky enough, you may be able to catch a free concert whilst there.
ᴿᴹ Meander London markets
London has lots of interesting markets to explore and meander about in. The best ones are Borough Market for the food lovers and Portobello Market for the vintage find seekers. These are particularly fun to explore during the summer months.
ᴿᴹ Go on the Jack the Ripper tour
One of the world's unresolved mysteries is that of Jack the Ripper. Over the years, people have tried piecing together different clues to try and figure out who he was. If you are curious, you can go on a free Jack the Ripper tour. The walk starts from Aldgate East station and takes you through different parts of East London where the murders would have taken place. The tours are free and they take place daily from 7.30pm and on weekends, tours start at 5.00pm and 7.30pm.
ᴿᴹ Visit the Houses of Parliament
If you live in London, you can contact your local MP and ask them to take you on a tour round the Houses of Parliament. The tour around the Houses of Parliament will take around 75 minutes. You will get a explanation on the UK Parliament, its history, how the working spaces are used and how UK residences can get involved in the democratic processes.
ᴿᴹ Get views from the Sky Garden
If you want to get a panoramic view of London, you can visit the Sky Garden. This is an indoor garden, located on floors 34 to 37, accessible to the public and entry is free. Whilst there, you can go along the perimeter and spot iconic London landmarks. You will be able to get a bird's eye view of Canary Wharf to Tower Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Shard, the London Eye and more.
ᴿᴹ Immerse yourself in the culture of Brick Lane
Brick Lane (ব্রিক লেন) is home to the largest Bengali population outside of Bangladesh. It is nicknamed 'Bangla Town' and the street names are written in Bengali. There are lots of Bengali influences in this part of London including a replica of the the Shaheed Minar. This is a monument erected to commemorate those who died during the Bengali Language Movement in 1952. Bangladesh is the only country who has fought for the freedom to speak in their national language of Bengali.
ᴿᴹ Street art (Shoreditch / Leak Street Arches of Waterloo)
Not far from Brick Lane is Shoreditch. This part of town has a hipster, urban young vibe. you will find large art murals dotted on walls throughout the area. And if like me, you love a bit of graffiti art, then this one is a must-see place for you. You could also see the Leak Street Arches of Waterloo. The art work here changes regularly so if you have the chance to go there from time to time, be sure to check out the art work there.
ᴿᴹ Spot London film locations
London has become home to many film locations including Notting Hill, Harry Potter, Love Actually, Bridget Jones' Diary, Sliding Doors, etc. Bollywood films including Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham to name just a few, has also used London as a filming location. So, if you're a movie lover, why not go out and spot some famous film locations. You could even take your camera with you and recreate movie scenes and posters just for the 'gram.
