How to straighten hair

A simple, chic and sophisticated look, that's timeless and easy to do...

There are different ways to straighten your hair and smooth out the annoying frizzies and flyaways. You could get this done professionally at the salon (think Brazilian blowdry, thermal reconditioning, hair relaxing, hair bonding, etc..) or at home with a straightening iron. Getting this done at a salon is more expensive but the results last a longer time; and if this is something you are interested in definitely do some research ahead of time so you know exactly what is available and what you want.

My hair is naturally straight but over time, the elements have caused some havoc on my hair, making it less straight and more kinky (sshh....no rude jokes here). I just home straighten my hair and only about once every one to two weeks.

Here are my tips on straightening your hair at home:

ᴿᴹ Step 1:

When straightening your hair, make sure that it is completely dry if you have just come out of a shower or have recently washed your hair.

ᴿᴹ Step 2:

Use a wide tooth comb or a brush and detangle your hair.

ᴿᴹ Step 3:

Heat is damaging to your hair so use a heat defence spray to minimise the damage to your hair. I have used the VO5 Heat Protect Spray when straightening my hair in the video linked below.

ᴿᴹ Step 4:

Part your hair into smaller sections and work on a small part at a time. I use the Remington Ceramic Straight 230 Hair Straighteners to straighten my hair. This is reasonably priced at £20. Hair straighteners can be quite expensive, with an average pair of GHD straighteners being around £100, so definitely recommending this one if you are in the market for a good quality pair of straightener that won't break the bank.

ᴿᴹ Step 5:

As you have just used heat in your hair, use a bit of serum or Moroccan oil in your hair to give it some replenishment.

At home straightening does not take long to do. The thicker the hair, the longer it will take and results stay until your next hair wash. I have a demo video to explain all this more fully so do check it out...
