Your wedding dress is possibly the one piece of item you will spend more time and money on. Let's take a walk down memory lane and look at some of the most iconic wedding dresses in history...
ᴿᴹ Queen Elizabeth II
Queen Elizabeth II married Prince Philip at Westminster Abbey in 1947. The wedding took place a few years after the war had ended. It was a time when England was rationing. The Queen purchased her wedding dress with rationing coupons, which was gifted to her by different brides-to-be from all over the country.
Inspired by the works of Botticelli, Norman Hartnell designed the Queen's dress. The dress, made of ivory duchess satin, decorated with 10,000 imported white pearls, silver thread and tulle embroidery has a fit and flare silhouette, long sleeves and a lot of embroidery and embellishments. The train of the dress was 13-foot in length; it attached at the shoulders, and a silk tulle veil held in place with the Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara lent to the princess by her mother. The train was a symbolic representation of the rebirth and regrowth of the country post war.
ᴿᴹ Jackie Kennedy
Jacqueline Kennedy married John F Kennedy on Rhode Island in 1953. Jackie 'O wore a full-skirted off-the-shoulder ball gown by African-American designer Ann Lowe. She completed the ensemble with a pair of white gloves and a veil.
ᴿᴹ Grace Kelly
Grace Kelly married Rainier III, Prince of Monaco, at Monaco’s Saint Nicholas Cathedral in 1956. Grace Kelly wore a silk taffeta and antique Brussels lace gown made by costume designer Helen Rose. It reportedly took three dozen seamstresses and six weeks to create the gown. The dress included 25 yards of silk taffeta, 100 yards of silk net and hundreds of seed pearls.
ᴿᴹ Priscilla Prestley
Priscilla Beaulieu married Elvis Presley in Las Vegas, 1967. Priscilla wore a silk chiffon baby-doll dress with a beaded neckline and long sleeves. The dress was worn with a traditional 3-foot tulle veil and a tiara.
ᴿᴹ Yoko Ono
Yoko Ono married John Lennon in Gibraltar in March, 1969. Yoko, who was a Japanese artist broke convention by wearing a white crepe mini dress with elbow-length sleeves and a ruffled shirt. She accessorized with a floppy sun hat, oversized sunglasses, knee-high socks, and white sneakers.
ᴿᴹ Princess Diana
Princess Diana married Prince Charles at St Paul’s Cathedral in 1981. Princess Diana wore an ivory silk taffeta dress designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel. Valued at the time to be worth £151,000, the dress was decorated with lace, sequins, hand embroidery and 10,000 pearls, and featured a 25-foot train. This was the longest in royal wedding history.
ᴿᴹ Victoria Beckham
Victoria Adams married David Beckham in Ireland in 1999. Victoria wore a champagne-coloured Vera Wang gown featuring a strapless bodice and voluminous skirt with a 20-foot train.
ᴿᴹ Priyanka Chopra
Bollywood sensation Priyanka Chopra married Nick Jonas in Mumbai, December 2018. There were many outfit changes during the week-long celebration. The most notable fashion moment was when Priyanka wore the custom made Ralph Lauren gown to the Christian ceremony. It featured a multitude of pearls, crystal beading and Swarovski crystal embellishment, the extravagant dress was the culmination of 1,826 hours of work. To top it all off, Priyanka wore a a tulle veil measuring an incredible 75ft.
