Work/ School
By far, the easiest way to make new friends is through work and/ or school. These are the places where you will be spending most of your time. You will be speaking with your co-workers regularly, getting to know them and most likely be invited to go out for after work drinks together.
Clubs/ Groups/ Activities
This could be any sort of activities that you can do on a regular basis such as joining a course to learn a new language, going to the gym, joining a health club, a walking group, etc.. The possibilities of club memberships are endless. Take some time to explore what you would like to be doing with your time and look for classes that would be fitting for you.
Hobbies
Did you used to have hobbies you were passionate about when you were younger? Did you enjoy writing short stories or making some art work? Now is a time to re-explore those old hobbies. Not only are you doing something that you enjoy, you may also find friends who share the same interest as you.
Social Media
I know, I know....social media can be toxic, it can make people feel bad about themselves. But social media can also be a wonderful thing too. It's an untapped resource you have at your fingertips. Look out for hashtags that relate to you, engage with different people and their posts, follow them and you'll start to build up a network of online friends, who can eventually become your real life friends.
Book Clubs
Are you a bit of a book worm? Do you ever read a book and you desperately want to discuss your thoughts and opinions with someone else? Why not join a book club and you can share your ideas with others. Only thing with book clubs is that you cannot always select the book to read and you also need to ensure that you read at the same pace as everyone else. However, if you're a slow reader, you could always opt for an audiobook version.
Meet up groups
Download the Meet-up app on your phone. Look through the different types of events that you may be interested in. There are plenty of events that you may be interested in and it's a good way of meeting new people.
Local events
Check out events in your local area. You can search this online through your Council's website and through different social media channels. You will get to know more about the different things offered in your area and get to meet people who live relatively close to you.
