Musical: Grease

Grease, made popular by the 1978 film of the same name, is back at the theatres and one to watch this summer.

Grease follows the students of Rydell High as they all go through their own high-school journeys. The main story that we follow is the romance of the Sandra Dee and Danny Zucko. Over the summer Sandy and Danny had a chance meeting which led to them having a summer fling.

The two parted ways but were able to reignite their romance when Sandy's family moved to Chicago and Sandy enrolled at Rydell High. unlike the movie, where we see Sandy and Danny spend a lot of time together, I was a bit disappointed to see the lack of Sandy-Danny time together on stage. The two had very contrasting personalities and roles amongst their friends.

Danny Zucko was the leather-wearing popular boy. He was the leader of his friend's circle The T-Birds. Sandy, was the newest member of the Pink Ladies a friend group of girls who were bold and daring. Sandy while was welcomed into the group, didn't quite fit in.

While the focus mainly is on Sandy and Danny, we see each of the character develop, grow and emerge into a more mature and sophisticated version of themselves.

Grease the musical is definitely one to watch this summer, especially if you're a super-fan like myself. They have all the main songs that you know and love as well as few new ones made specifically for the stage-show. And it ends with audience being invited to stand up and sing and dance along to the hit classsics.
