ᴿᴹ Drinking water
Drinking water is a good way to flush out toxins from your body, which is good for the overall health of your body, hair, nails and skin.
ᴿᴹ Healthy diet
Food high in antioxidant are incredibly good for your skin as they protect the skin by reducing and counteracting free radical production. Examples of food high in antioxidant include broccoli, spinach, carrots and potatoes, artichokes, cabbage, asparagus, avocados, beetroot, radish, lettuce, sweet potatoes, squash, pumpkin, collard greens and kale.
ᴿᴹ Regular exercise regularly
Exercise can help to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the skin, keeping it healthy by promoting collagen production, and new skin cells which keeps the skin glowing looking fresh.
ᴿᴹ Remove make up
Ensure that removing your make up is part of your nightly skincare regime. This is to remove dirt and impurities from the surface of your skin, which can lead to acne and clogged pores.
ᴿᴹ Have a skincare regime (cleanse, tone, moisturise)
Have a morning and night skincare routine which includes cleansing, toning and moisturising your skin. Cleansing keeps the skin fresh and clean and free of dirt and impurities. Toning helps to get rid of any dirt that you missed in the cleansing stage while adding some moisture back into your skin and moisturiser is to hydrate and replenish your skin.
ᴿᴹ Sleep
When you sleep, the blood flow in your skin increases and this helps the skin rebuild its collagen and repair damage from the environment.
ᴿᴹ Keeping things clean
It is not ideal for dirty things to touch your face. For instance, using a mobile phone can cause friction, inflammation and promote acne breakouts to your skin. Wipe your phone regularly with an antibacterial wipe and change pillow cases once a week. Also, make sure your make up brushes and applicators are clean before use.
ᴿᴹ Treat yourself to a facial.
Think of a facial as a MOT for your skin. You get your skin steamed, blackheads extracted, mask put on and feel really pampered. After a facial, your skin will look red and blotchy; but that's just your skin getting super cleaned, nothing to be concerned about and this will go away the next day. Facial once every three to four months is fine. However you beauty therapist will disagree and say you need to have monthly facials. It's how they generate their income so take that with a pinch of salt.
ᴿᴹ Sun protection
Harmful UVA and UVB rays can cause damage to your skin. Minimise sun damage by avoiding going out when the sun is at its brightest, wear sunglasses with UV filters and wear products that have SPF in them.
ᴿᴹ Stress less
Easier said than done, but try to stress less. Stress causes your body to produce hormones like cortisol which makes your glands secrete more oil. Oily skin is more prone to acne and other skin problems. Stress can also exacerbate any skin condition.
These are some things that I do to keep my skin in good condition. I am not a dermatologist, I am just a beauty junkie. However, if following these tips do not help you, please seek a doctor's advise and follow the advice they give.
