Tackle winter skin

I hate the winter on my skin. The cold air of the outside and the warmth of the central heating can lead to dry, dull flaky skin. Here are some ways to keep the flakes at bay....

ᴿᴹ Drink plenty of water No matter how much you moisturise you still are experiencing dry skin and that’s simply because you are dehydrated. Make sure you increase your daily intake of water at this time.

ᴿᴹ Layer up Central heating is a blessing, but it can take a toll on your skin. By all means use it to keep warm but if it all possible wear more layers to keep warm and never underestimate the power of a hot water bottle. ᴿᴹ Warm is hot enough When showering, you don’t necessarily have to have a scalding, steaming hot shower. Use the same temperature you would use at any other time of the year. The hotter the water, the more you are going to be drying up your skin. ᴿᴹ A touch of oil Consider adding a touch of oil to your skincare regime. It may not add extra moisture to your skin but it will keep the moisture that you do have locked in. ᴿᴹ Cleanse and exfoliate Keep your skin clean. Wash your face regularly and be sure to get rid of all the toxins and make-up of the day. Once weekly or fortnightly, gently buff your skin to remove the dry skin.

ᴿᴹ Avoid Perfumed Products I love perfumed products as much as the next girl but they do not do your skin any favours. Perfumed products have added chemicals that you can do without. Keeping your skincare regime simple. ᴿᴹ Diet Foods such as avocados, carrots and honey are great; they contain nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins which are great for your skin. Also, as you are consuming these foods, your skin will get that much needed boost from the inside out. ᴿᴹ Exercise I don’t know what it is about exercise but it seems to defeat all the problems that you have. A bit of daily exercise will help keep the dry flakes at bay. ᴿᴹ Sunscreen lotions It’s quite common to skip on the sun protection creams during winter; it’s a case of out of sight, out of mind. Make sure you don’t skip on this in your winter skincare regime. The sun still shines in winter and it can still harm your skin. ᴿᴹ Sleep Your skin repairs itself at night when you sleep. It’s when you sleep that your body works to repair itself; it hydrates, nourishes and regenerates. So, be sure to get enough sleep to really see your skin glow.
