The Housemaid follows the story of Millie, a girl in her 20s living in New York City. Millie is trying to clean up her life after having spent 10 years in prison; she finds a job as a housemaid where she works for Nina Winchester. The Winchester household is made up of Nina, her husband Andrew and their daughter Cecelia.
As we move through the different chapters of the book, we see the demands that are put on Millie by Nina. Nina seems to be an impossible boss to please. She is inconsistent, demanding and just seems to want Millie to read her mind.
This is part of a big plot twist. In reality, Nina is an abused wife. She has hired Millie to take her place and be some sort of a distraction as she attempts to leave Andrew. This is a big spoiler however, as the book has many plot twists to it , I have still not revealed all....
The book is really well-written and was very easy to get through, which is a pleasant change to the some of the other books I have read recently. This is the first of a three-part series, the last of which is due to come out some time next year. Definitely worth a read and it has been a New York best-seller, it's being well enjoyed by the masses.
